"We so often practice separation by allowing our mind to wander where it will, when we're doing some non-intellectual work such as washing dishes.

"Of course there is no problem when we're doing intellectually or artistically absorbing work. If we are solving geometrical problems, we just solve them. But when we put them aside, and go out to sweep leaves, we so often still keep doing geometry in our heads. There is something about Western culture that encourages and praises this. In Oriental spirituality it is frowned upon, because in this way we are separating mind and body.

"Separation is the arch-enemy of all life. Indeed the word 'diabolical' is from the Greek 'diaballein,' to separate or divide. So separation is the work of the devil, and let us away with it. In all our waking moments, let us try to be where we are, and not separated from the work or play in which we are engaged."
