Gomo Tulku (1922 - 1985) was an accomplished Buddhist master born in Tibet who spent his last year teaching in Italy. Joan Nicell has translated this text and edited the oral commentary. These mind training teachings are an essential part of Dharma practice. One of the most important is to take responsibility for all the difficulties in our lives instead of blaming others. Another is to take all problems and all suffering as "an aid for generating the precious mind of enlightenment." According to Tulku, anything that acts as an antidote to self-grasping is Dharma practice.

The last section of Becoming a Child of the Buddhas is devoted to wise counsel regarding mind training. The author admonishes us to train continuously, to not be erratic, to refrain from boasting, and to give up all hope of reward. This advice is solid and substantive enough to apply to anyone engaged in a disciplined spiritual practice.
