In an introductory piece to this book, "Re-awakening Elderhood," clinical psychologist Thomas M. Knoblauch writes: "We must actively create intergenerational dialogues if we are to move harmoniously into our collective destiny as a human race. The coming generations need to learn the intricacies of heart-mind-body-spirit integration as they have been experienced by people who have already lived into the last phase of their lives. What our elders can offer us today is remembered experience in our joint struggle with these mysteries."

Seven elders ranging in age from 65 to 92 share their thoughts and experiences about love in its different guises. They affirm and celebrate the virtues of compassion and altruism, and they acknowledge that healing can come from caring for others. They present us with a model of eldering as a time to harvest the many teachings of life and to present them as a gift to the young.

1999 has been declared the United Nations' International Year of Older Persons. This paperback is a fine resource for facilitating intergenerational dialogue on love and the lessons of the heart.
