Krishna Das is an internationally known recording artist and cofounder of the Triloka world-music label. As a devotee of the Indian guru Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji), he has taught chanting as a spiritual practice on the path of devotion. In this book, Krishna Das presents the 40 verses of the Hanuman Chalisa, one of India's most sacred songs. It praises the life, character, and exploits of Hanuman, a.k.a. the monkey God. He states: "As we sing the Hanuman Chalisa, our hearts and minds are purified, and gradually we are freed of our attachment and negativity, allowing us to recognize our Oneness with all."

Krishna Das explains the life and character of Hanuman in the Tibetan and Chinese traditions. Hanuman models love, compassion, and devotion. Krishna Das has recorded two CDs, packaged with the book, so that those interested in this devotional singing (kirtan) can chant along with him. The book has a pronunciation guide and transliterations of the 40 verses.
