SARK talks about the thrill of having her first book published and doing exactly what she envisioned: "touching and transforming people." Our first little book 100 Ways to Keep Your Soul Alive did the same thing. We saw it as a little rowboat in a harbor filled with big ships. It is still puttering along after years of travel into the hearts and minds of its readers.

Writing saved the life of Henry Miller and perhaps that's why his constant celebration of wonder makes him a hero to all aspiring writers. SARK recommends writing no matter what the external circumstances. There usually isn't a right or a good time: just do it! She says action comes before inspiration and she is right about that.

She throws in many quotes to spur us onward such as this one by Brenda Veland: "When we commit ourselves to writing for some part of each day we are happier, more enlightened, alive, lighthearted and generous to everyone else. Even our health improves."

We also like this proposition by SARL: "I think of being human as a kind of writing incubator. You are your own hatching station." Play around with that one for a while.
