All Tallulah wants for her birthday is a pink fluffy rabbit. Neither the toy store nor the pet store has what she so desperately desires. Then her Grandma comes up with a perfect solution; she will knit her a pink fluffy rabbit. But things don't go as planned and the pink creature turns out to be an armadillo, which she names Milo. Tallulah is immensely disappointed on her birthday.

As Tallulah gets to know her new companion, she compares him unfavorably with the pink fluffy rabbit that all of her friends possess. Milo tries so hard to please her but she won't accept him for what he is. But after Milo Armadillo has left her, Tallulah feels sad and misses him. She realizes that he is her best friend and something very special indeed.

Jan Fearnley is the writer and illustrator of Milo Armadillo, a heartwarming story for children ages two and up. Sometimes, as the Rolling Stones sing, you can't always get what you want, but you get what you need. Or as the Buddhists would say: Tallulah's attachment to having a pink fluffy rabbit hinders her from accepting and appreciating Milo Armadillo for all he is. It is far better to open to the new and the different than to cling to one thing.
