We can all be caretakers on this planet where even very different species can help each other in times of danger and crisis. That is the moral message of this edifying and entertaining paperback book written by April Pulley Sayre for children ages 5–8.

A mother turtle arrives on a Florida beach at night and buries her eggs in the sand. Before they even hatch, these little ones are in danger of being dug up and eaten by raccoons or run over by jeeps on the beach. With a bit of help from human beings, these turtles hatch in two weeks and head for the water, trying to stay clear of animals on the hunt. Once in the water, a young turtle uses her flippers and dines on conches and crabs. If she can stay away from plastic bags, sharks, shrimper's nets, and other dangers over a 20-year period, she will, after mating, return to the same beach where she was born and deposit her own eggs.

Previously published, this story has been nicely re-illustrated by Annie Patterson. Turtle, Turtle, Watch Out! contains information on sea turtle conservation efforts.
