Warduff is a contented cat whose two main pleasures in life are sleeping and eating fish cakes. Whereas other cats are stand-offish towards other creatures, he has a wide circle of friends. One of them is a chicken at Corncob Farm who calls upon Warduff for help. The fox has been seen on the prowl, looking for something to eat. The cat arrives at the farm and is greeted by a whole group of alarmed animals. But he knows he needs to be alone and goes out into the fields to think. Using his keen imagination, Warduff comes up with a plan that will scare the fox away and give the farm animals some peace of mind.

Mat Head has written and illustrated this picture book for children 4 through 8 years of age. It is interesting to note that Warduff only comes up with a creative plan to help his friends by going into solitude. This is a fine lesson for children: creativity and imagination both need to be nourished in silence far from the crowds and the hustle-and-bustle of life.
