The best children's books are the ones that are friends, a treasure trove, a celebration, mysterious, and filled with surprises. Open This Little Book by Jesse Klausmeier and illustrated by wizard book creator Suzy Lee is an enticing volume that ought to appeal to kids (ages 4 and up) and adults (21 and up).

It is a series of books inside books that will appeal to all of us who can't get enough of these guiding lights. Each book — they keep getting smaller — is opened by another in a string of characters — a ladybug, a frog, a rabbit, a bear, a giant (who gets help from her friends).

While perusing through this colorful work we thought of Anna Quindlen's comment: "I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves." Adults and kids who savor Open This Little Book will, no doubt, share her sentiments. Klausmeier and Lee also follow the advice of R. D. Cumming who quipped: "A good book has no ending."
