Lucas is somewhat of a control freak and things are going from bad to worse at school. He ridicules a new student, tries to boss other students around, and spreads negativity in disparaging comments on a classmate's soccer skills and a boy who is a teacher's pet. Soon, Lucas finds himself all alone because nobody wants to be around him.

Having no one to turn to except his mother, Lucas is relieved that she listens to his account of things but does not judge him. She also does not let him off the hook for his inappropriate behavior.

In a note to parents and caregivers at the end of the book, Tammy L. Hughes, a school psychologist and professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, gives further advice on guiding children through social conflicts at school. Boss No More has been designed for children ages 4 through 8 and is published by the American Psychological Association.
