"Gratitude is not a luxury for believers only; it is an absolute necessity in today's world."
— Susan Muto

Susan Muto, executive director of the Epiphany Association, is a well-known speaker, author, teacher and dean of the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality. She has written more than 30 books and is the coauthor with Rev. Adrian van Kaam of more than 40 books.

Muto begins with St. Paul's list of 16 directives underlying the spiritual practice of gratitude in I Thessalonians 15:12-22. She sets these against a formidable list of behaviors which lead to "a poisonous climate of ingratitude and thankless living."

With spunk and clarity, Muto devotes plenty of space and illustrative material to spiritual approaches which can help us grow in love and gratitude. They are covered in these chapters:

  • Being Grateful Despite the Circumstances
  • Benefits of Positivity
  • Dangers of Negativity
  • Redemptive Power of Prayer
  • Signs of Progress in Grateful Living
  • Lasting Fruits of Thankfulness
  • Thankful Acceptance of the Mission God Entrusts to Us
