In this excellent work, world renowned spiritual teacher Thich Nhat Hanh uses experiences from his life and teachings from ancient texts to elucidate key Buddhist teachings. He recalls what it was like to be a young monk in Vietnam and to fall in love with a nun. Both memories are still with him as a spur to his evolution as a rounded human being. He points out that to him, an engaged Buddhist working for social justice, impermanence is an ally. Without it, there could be no change or grounds for hope.

Thich Nhat Hanh expands on the concept of interbeing, the interconnection of all things. He makes a convincing case for his belief that “looking deeply at any one thing, we can see the whole cosmos.” Interbeing means that a flower, a piece of paper, or a political leader contain everything else in the universe. This revelation is a spur to compassion and a deep respect for all animate and inanimate beings. Cultivating the Mind of Love is positively uplifting.
