Harvey Arden, a veteran writer for National Geographic, shares his impressions of a trip to Australia undertaken after he completed Wisdomkeepers: Meetings with Native American Elders. In the outback, the author tries to gain access to the Dreamtime but is told to respect the mystery and to stick to his own tradition. Arden switches gears and interviews an aboriginal storyteller, a healer, a public servant who lives in two worlds, a traditional law man who oversees initiation rites for young men, and a spiritual elder who stresses the importance of knowing one's place on the earth. This exploration at "the edges of the Dreamtime" will appeal to all devotees of aboriginal culture.
