In this book, William J. Jarema, founder and director of the Mercy Center for Healing the Whole Person, contends that most men do not want to repeat the errors of their fathers and are in the midst of redefining what it means to be a male. The author explores fathering styles which are healthy and those which are not. He celebrates men who parent as elders, companions, champions, mystics, and mentors while criticizing those who are dictators, tricksters, competitors, magicians, and villains. Jarema uses illustrative material from interviews with men and from recent movies. Near the end of the book, he suggests inner work for those who want to be the best parents they can be.
