Ana Hernandez is a composer, arranger, and performer of sacred music. She is also a member of the recording group HARC. For more than a decade, she has conducted workshops that encourage people to explore the effects of rhythm and chant on their bodies. In this helpful paperback, she outlines the benefits of chanting, including improved listening skills, heightened energy, more sensitivity toward people, feeling better about yourself, and leading a richer spiritual life.

There was a flurry of interest in the health benefits of this spiritual practice ten years ago when the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos in Spain had a bestselling album of Gregorian chants. Now, as the author demonstrates, it is possible to find chants from many faith traditions that have been used for centuries.

Hernandez does this spiritual practice five days a week, and she has included 20 chants written out with musical notations and pronunciation keys. Included are some to express devotion, gratitude, peace, compassion, and to call in light. She also recommends audio recordings and websites. Her own is www.anahermusic.com.
