The little girl names her quilt Mooshka.
Each square of the quilt has a story to tell from the lives of Karla's relatives. One piece says she came from a table cloth from grandmother's farmhouse; another, a kerchief grandfather liked to wear around his neck; and a third was a cape her mother wore when she was young. However when a baby sister arrives, Karla is unhappy that she has to share her room, and then Mooshka stops telling her stories at night. It is only when the little girl decides to share her quilt's stories with the baby that things return to normal.
