You can run but you can't hide from your shadow. On a beautiful day Rabbit is troubled when he sees that he is not alone. He is being followed by a big Black Rabbit and so he runs and hides behind a tree. Rabbit jumps into a river, but when he climbs out on the other side, the other rabbit is still stalking him.

The shadow finds him and then emerges from a river, still stalking rabbit. Rabbit scurries into the deep, dark forest for solace but runs into a hungry wolf. He runs away out of the forest and is surprised when the wolf stops in his tracks. Behind Rabbit and looking very tall is his shadow who scares the wolf away. Hand-in-hand the two rabbits go off together as friends.

The Black Rabbit is writer and illustrator Philippa Leathers' first picture book, and it is a gem given its difficult subject. Parents can use this book to teach about the science of shadows or to touch on the spiritual teaching that we all have a shadow, a part of ourselves that we want to deny or hide from. This picture book is targeted for children from 3 to 6 years of age. We look forward to future books by Philippa Leathers.
