All of us are cheered by the abundant beauty that arrives with spring. There is something so uplifting about brightly colored trees; they take our breath away! These beings have made it through another winter and withstood the cold wind and the freezing temperatures to sprout little buds.

Carole Gerber opens this picture book for children with: "Spring is bursting out all over. The sun is up. It's warm. Let's go!" She and illustrator Leslie Evans combine their talents and share with us a joyful journey through a park of blossoming trees. The book is designed for children from ages 4 - 7.

Two young girls and their dog marvel at the cherry blossom tree, the white dogwood, the crab apple, the magnolia, the cherry, the white oat, the beech, the red maple tree, the redbud tree, the white pine, and the balsam fir. They are also alert to the differences among the blossoms, which are amplified in the back of the book.

Paging through Spring Blossoms, we were reminded of Nikos Kazantzakis' words:

"I said to the almond tree:
Speak to me of God;
And the almond tree blossomed."
