Dog is heading off on a journey and the only thing he is carrying is a little blue suitcase. Inside are the things that mean the most to him: a bumpy little pinecone; a smooth rock with a hole in it; a really good stick; a soft, tickly feather; some dancing leaves; and a big, shiny red button. Happy with his things close at hand, Dog watches the moon rise and rejoices saying, "I have everything I need!"

In the morning, he discovers a mouse sleeping on his suitcase with him. Nonetheless, Dog shows the mouse his things and then they play several games of hide-and-seek together. It doesn't take them too long to realize that what they both need more than anything else in the world is to be friends.

With nifty illustrations by Rosalind Beardshw and a lovely story written by Tracey Corderoy, this children's picture book seems to be in sync with the feelings of children in preschool through 2nd grade. It salutes the ways we can find friends.
