"When I was in Tucson, we had broccoli stalks for dinner. Helen said it was like eating trees. Indeed. They do look that way. And when I was in Colorado, Dorothy bought a bottle of champagne. As we sat sipping, she exclaimed that she was 'drinking stars.'

"What is it about these two catchy phrases that leap like a little elf inside of me? They bring delight because they connect me with the planet and the universe. Yes, I am eating more than food and drinking more than liquid. I truly am eating trees and drinking stars. Everything is woven together in the loom of life. What feeds me has been fed by Earth. What I drink has been touched by stars. Sun has fed and nurtured grapes, those tiny beginnings of sparkle, as they matured and grew into ripeness. Moon has watched over them in the comforting shade of night, soothing these juicy fruits of vine with her tenderness.

"Yes, I eat trees and I drink stars. It is a lovely thought, that one. I want to hold it near to me when I sit down to every meal. Bring on the broccoli and the champagne. It is time to hold hands with the dancing cosmos with every bite I eat and every sip I take."
