This book offers another fine glimpse into the daily life of this poet, novelist, teacher, and lecturer. She quotes Theodore Roethke — "my poems teach me where to go" — and then concludes "the journal takes me where I have been." Sarton reports on the books she's read, the videos she's enjoyed, and the continuing response to her writings. Despite the pain of cancer, she rejoices in the love and support of friends. Photographs of the frail author at home with her ever-present flowers delightfully enhance the text. "So here I am, a lucky old woman, rejoicing in her life on this great earth," Sarton concludes. The author died of breast cancer on July 16, 1995, and she will be greatly missed by those whose lives were enriched by her journals, poems, novels, and lectures.
