At the mystic heart of every religion lies a shared core of teachings called Perennial Wisdom. In this e-course, we will explore dozens of texts about such topics as the nature of God, self, soul, wisdom, and the way of the wise. Passages will be drawn from a wide range of sources: the Bible, Hasidic Tales, the Qur'an, the Dhammapada, the Dharmakaya Sutra, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Tao te Ching, the Gospel of Eve, the Way of Chuang Tzu, and more.
With each session, scheduled at a pace that you choose, you will receive a short text from one or more religions accompanied by Rabbi Rami's explanatory commentary, plus an exercise to do to help you explore the ideas further. There is no authority here, no one to tell you what to believe about this world wisdom, only an opportunity to delve deeply into some very powerful and universal teachings and to share your experience with them with fellow participants and Rabbi Rami.
This e-course consists of 46 emails, which were sent daily from Ash Wednesday through the eve of Easter during 2018 when this e-course first ran. Each of the emails will contain:
- A short passage from a sacred text of one of the world's religions
- A short commentary by Rabbi Rami
- A suggested practice to deepen your experience of the teaching
- An invitation to record your thoughts in your journal
A Jewish practitioner of Perennial Wisdom, Rabbi Rami Shapiro is an award–winning author of more than 30 books on religion and spirituality. He received rabbinical ordination from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, and holds a PH.D. in religion from Union Graduate School. Rabbi Rami currently helps direct the One River Foundation, writes the Roadside Assistance for the Spiritual Traveler column for Spirituality and Health magazine, and hosts the magazine’s weekly radio show, Essential Conversations with Rabbi Rami. His newest book is Holy Rascals: Advice for the Spiritual Revolutionary (Sounds True, 2017). He is profiled in our Living Spiritual Teachers Project.
