WE HAVE A REVISED VERSION OF THIS E-COURSE. YOU CAN SUBSCRIBE TO IT HERE:
The ancient practice of praying the Scriptures is being rediscovered and renewed in our time. Known as Lectio Divina (Divine Reading), it is one of the great treasures of the Christian tradition of prayer.
Contemplative Outreach, founded by Fr. Thomas Keating and best known for its pioneering teaching of Centering Prayer, has developed a workshop on Lectio Divina. Spirituality & Practice is pleased to partner with Contemplative Outreach to bring this teaching to the online community.
Lectio Divina flows out of the Hebrew method of studying the Scriptures which is called haggadah, learning by the heart. Haggadah was an interactive interpretation of the Scriptures by means of the free use of the text to explore its inner meaning. This online retreat will present the Christian version of this spiritual practice working with passages from the Bible. However, the method of divine reading can be used with any sacred text, so people of all traditions are invited to join us.
Subscribers to this online experience will receive the e-course in four parts, each consisting of three lessons. We recommend that you schedule the e-course to be delivered three-times-a-week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The first email of each part contains step-by-step instructions in the Lectio Divina method. Two other emails in each part will provide answers to frequently asked questions, links to online slideshows, and links to online audio programs with commentary on this classic practice.
