29th Street offers some interesting new twists on the well-worn theme of father-son conflicts. Anthony LaPaglia stars as a carefree and somewhat irresponsible Italian-American who learns that he is a finalist in the $6.2 million New York lottery. Instead of rejoicing, his father (Danny Aiello) seethes with resentment over the luck of his son. At the heart of their clash is differing views on the work ethic. Writer and director George Gallo keeps this character-driven drama percolating with just the right mix of ethnic humor and family feeling. The up-tempo finale fits the holiday season.
