A Teaching Scene from Rambling Rose

In a late night discussion over whether or not to fire Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Hillyer reveal different understandings of what people want from this loving and very sensual young woman.

Mrs. Hilyer: "How could Rose be a bad influence? She has a loving nature. You ought to want someone like that around the children. Why do you think those men and boys like her?"

Mr. Hillyer: "Well, I have a pretty good idea."

Mrs. Hillyer: "If you mean sex, you couldn't be more wrong. Rose likes those boys and men. She has love in her heart, and that is what they want. It's the most rare and beautiful thing in life and that is why they follow her."
