This tale about a very rich real-estate wheeler-dealer starts out with a bang and ends with a whimper after changing movie genres a few too many times.

Damian Hale (Ben Kingsley) is dying of cancer yet is lucky enough to be able to pay $250 million for a procedure called "shedding." Albright (Matthew Goode), the CEO of the Phoenix Biogenic Corporation, explains that his old body will die and he will become immortal in a new, healthy, and younger body. No one is really sad to see the old Damian depart, especially his estranged daughter Claire (Michelle Dockery). His new self (Ryan Reynolds) was formerly known as Edward.

Although enjoying his new life, this young man becomes increasingly curious about the mysterious Phoenix Corporation. He soons finds himself being followed and attacked by the CEO's very persistent right-hand man (Derek Luke). Along the way, he has a deja-vu experience with a single mom (Natalie Martinez) and her daughter (Jaynee-Lynne Kinchen).

Director Tarsem Singh, working with a screenplay by Alex and David Pastor, starts the film as a sci-fi drama, then shifts gears and makes it into a thriller with car chases and intense brawling, and then ends with a love story as the hero rescues the maiden in distress. It's all a bit much.
