Balto is the name of an outsider in Nome, Alaska, during 1925 who is rejected by his peers for being half husky and half wolf. His best friends are a Russian snow goose and twin polar bears. Balto sees a chance to impress Jenna, a pampered pet whom he adores, when the little girl in her owner's family is stricken with diphtheria. Unless she and other children in the community receive medicine, they will die.

A team of sled dogs is dispatched on a 600-mile mission of mercy. However, when they get lost, Balto has a chance to demonstrate his courage and creativity. This fine animated feature from Amblin Entertainment is directed by Simon Wells. Balto even contains some moving mystical moments during this underdog's heroic journey.
