Crooklyn is an idiosyncratic domestic drama written and directed by Spike Lee. The financially strapped Carmichaels live in Brooklyn during the 1970s. Carolyn (Alfre Woodard) is a hard-working teacher and short-tempered mother trying to keep her five rowdy kids on the right road to maturity. Their loving father (Delroy Lindo) has his heart in the right place but, as a purist jazz musician, he refuses to take jobs which will help support the family. The film focuses on 10-year-old Troy (Zelda Harris) whose brief visit with some Bible-quoting relatives in suburban Maryland helps her appreciate her family and take the role of responsible daughter when tragedy happens.
