Robert Duvall wrote and directed this scrappy and revealing little movie about contemporary urban gypsies. Angelo, a spunky, 11-year-old, believes that his birthright ring has been stolen by a grubby character called Patalay. The accused goes free after a gypsie "trial," so Angelo and his brother keep after him on their own. This film, with its cinema verite style, takes viewers into the everyday lives of these vagabonds. Angelo's adventures in school, at the planned wedding of his brother, and dating a WASP girl put the accent on his charm, eccentricity and self reliance.
