Available on DVD for the first time, here are twenty-five episodes from the third season of this five-time Emmy Award-winning television series set in the Old West. Jane Seymour plays Michaela "Mike" Quinn, a doctor raising three orphaned children while serving as the only medical doctor in their small community of Colorado Springs. This eight-volume set features shows from the 1994 - 1995 season and culminates with the romantic and long-awaited two-hour wedding episode "For Better or Worse." As an added bonus for fans, Seymour and Joe Lando, who plays her husband, Sully, add their comments to this event. Several shows deal with white animosity towards the Cheyenne, the Native Americans who live in the nearby mountains, and Sully's friendship with Cloud Dancing. Jason Leland Adams stars as General George Custer, and Johnny and June Cash appear on a special Thanksgiving episode.

There are many reasons why this series is well worth savoring again. Jane Seymour's multileveled performance as Dr. Quinn shows how a talented and principled woman can make it on her own in a world where women are still treated like second-class citizens. Many episodes convey the challenges she faced with intolerant townsfolk and strangers who want to have nothing to do with a woman physician. In addition, Dr. Quinn serves as a good example of a strong-willed single parent who manages in tough times to raise a family with a little help from her friend Sully. The series also deals with the clash between whites pioneers and the Native Americans from the area. Sully is a heroic figure in this regard, trying to do the best he can for his Cheyenne friends. Rewatching this series, we came to a fresh appreciation for the fine screenplay writing and the emotionally rich and soul-satisfying performances by Jane Seymour as the frontier doctor who serves as moral force in her community.
