This is the first English-language film by Percy Adlon (Sugarbaby). This oddly poignant comedy revolves around a lonely German hausfrau (Marianne Sagebrecht) who checks into a run-down truck-stop motel at the edge of the Mojave Desert. Her maternal instinct, artistic sensibility, and penchant for magic win the hearts of the black owner of the café and her teenage children, an Indian short-order cook, and a former Hollywood set painter (Jack Palance). Baghdad Café is an exotic celebration of the beauty of human personality and friendship.
