Georges Rouault, a French painter and devout Christian, once wrote: "One is never finished seeing and watching. Our eyes are the doors of our spirit and the light of our mind." Many of his creations are meditations on faith as a single-minded relationship with God. In Joan of Arc, Rouault shows the saint riding a prancing horse, holding up a banner, as the sun shines brightly upon them. The luminous colors in the painting are a testament to her ardor.
