Reflect on your own longing to draw closer to God and renew your soul on a daily basis. What would your prayer look like? [daily prayer -- verbal prayer, devotional reading, Bible study, Holy Communion, meditation, etc;] What would be right for you? Your form of daily prayer and devotion will depend on your tradition and your need of the moment. Patrick, a college professor who identifies himself as spiritual but not religious, took a group of students to bear witness in Bosnia for five summers. He used a candle as the central image of his daily meditations. He told me that the lighted candle was a reminder of the flame within, a reminder to seek the flame in others, and a reminder to light that flame in places of darkness. "A lit candle loses nothing by lighting another candle," Patrick said.
