Choose a week to conduct the following practice. Keep track of the friends and colleagues you talked to during the week. In a notebook record a description of the moments in which you believe you were able to offer some light to another person's life. This light may be in the form of support, respect, enthusiasm, humor, or helpful knowledge. There are many ways of offering light to others. One way may even include sending good thoughts toward them.

At the end of the week reflect on how many people you gave light to and the various ways in which you gave them light. Purchase the same number of candles as the number of people you helped light. Arrange a time for a ceremony. Light the candles in a dark room and see the amount of light you put into the world in one week.
