Judaism has a surprising variety of blessings for all types of experiences. Some of them are quite beautiful. Consider incorporating some into your life.

Upon seeing something of extraordinary beauty we say, “Praised are You Adonai, Our God, Sovereign of the universe, who has placed such beauty in Your world.”

Upon seeing lightning we say, “Praised are You Adonai, Our God, Sovereign of the universe, who does the work of creation.”

Upon hearing thunder we say, “Praised are You Adonai, Our God, Sovereign of the universe, whose power and might fill the whole world.”

Upon seeing the ocean we say, “Praised are You Adonai, Our God, Sovereign of the universe, who made the great sea.”

In conversation, when we independently awaken to an insight that reflects one from our sages or colleagues, we say, “Praised are You, God, for enabling me to share in the wisdom of sages.”

When we see someone distinguished in worldly knowledge, discovery, and invention, we say, “Praised are You Adonai, Our God, Sovereign of the universe, who has given of Your wisdom to those who are flesh and blood.”
