When I think about it, we are all actually vine-like. We grow upon the strength of others, reaching out for new places of discovery. Our need for support is constant . . .

But when I study the vines in my garden I see they actually become stronger the more I contain them. Rather than spreading farther out, the vines gain substance. They get thicker and sturdier. They hold themselves up a little better. I want to trust what I see. I want to trust that this also happens when I refuse to let people take advantage of me, disregard me, or assume that I am continually available for support.
