My own teacher, Nyoshul Khenpo, once told me that lamas of old would sleep in caves high up on the slopes of one mountain, and meditate across the valley on another. He said that these advanced practitioners would use yogic breath and psychic energy in order to travel from place to place. Each day, everybody in the valley would see levitating lamas riding the rays of the setting sun. I always loved the image of rush hour with the Himalayan sky full of commuting lamas.
