Dorothy Maclean realized that the most important contribution that a person could make to a garden — more important than water and fertilizer — was the radiation, such as love, one puts into the soil while cultivating it. Everything that comes into a human being through inspiration of one sort or another . . . goes out again, modified in wavelength, tone, and timbre by the will of the person involved.
