A nonviolent international struggle against terrorism, an effort inspired by an interfaith coalition of nonviolent religious traditions, would become a massive effort to open up space: political and social space, cultural and spiritual space, psychological and physical space for people to be themselves amid multiple varieties and styles of human beings. Such forceful resistance to terrorism would be steeped in recognition of our differences, tolerance of the tensions among us, and faith that the ambiguities we embody can be creative teachers rather than demons to damn us.
