The wondrous possibilities inherent in the human species were Judaism's great gift to the world. Contrast the Bible's concept of creation with the Babylonian creation myth, Enuma Elish, in which human beings were created to perfom menial tasks for the gods, to act as bellhops to divine whims. For the Hebrew God, conversely, human beings had the power to help God save the world, to effect justice, to make weighty decisions — even to enter covenants. Each of us, then, is God's masterpiece.
