Attention to the pressing issues of consumerism and globalization may generate a kind of Buddhist liberation theology that would combine the best of contemporary social and economic theory and practice with the full lens of Buddhist teachings.

In addition to spiritually based activism, compassionate action can be applied to the inner work of contemporary American life. Compassionate action can address the negative emotions that arise when one contemplates the phenomenon of consumerism in the context of the global economy.
