In the National Catholic Reporter there was a fascinating article by Rich Heffern on Navajo spirituality in which he quotes from a conversation with Sr. Gloria Davis reflecting on her native Navajo tradition. She explains that the holy ones in their community, the ones who were the spiritual leaders, 'were always the people with the keenest sense of humor. You could spot them by the laugh wrinkles near their eyes!'
