This old man, Running Elk, was a believer in all religions. He participated in the old traditions of his people and was a member of several Christian churches. He prayed to Mecca every day and also practiced several Buddhist meditations. Running Elk was known to say, "I want to cover all the spiritual bases. Since you have to step on four different bases to hit a home run, I'm not going to take any chances with my spirituality." He made certain he always practiced at least four different traditions faithfully, one from each direction of the world.
