Every Christian is called to be a witness for the Risen Christ. The saints and martyrs . . . gave their lives as witnesses to Christ and his Gospel of peace, love, and nonviolence. They summon us to carry on the Gospel mission as Christ's witnesses, to stand with the saints and martyrs to welcome God's reign of peace and love, to denounce the injustices of war and poverty, and to work diligently for the abolition of war, hunger, the death penalty, abortion, poverty, and nuclear weapons. This Gospel work stands at the center of the spiritual life.
