Sometimes the greatest change we can make is when we stop trying to change ourselves. In her book Radical Acceptance, psychologist Tara Brach describes a middle-aged woman, a patient of hers, who was caring for her dying mother. When the end was very close, the mother looked in her daughter's eyes and said, "All my life I have felt there was something wrong with me. What a waste!" Recounting this story, Brach says, "It was as though the mother had given her daughter a final gift."
