Hope always looks beyond the self, recognizing the help that can come from outside, from beyond, from another. Hope tells us that there is an "other" who is important, in whom we are anchored with every fiber of our being. Hope is always exercised in relation to someone or something other than the self. Hope depends on another, on others, on God. It simply cannot be achieved alone. It searches and looks to the outside world. Hope demands active waiting for something beyond what one might achieve alone.
