"We have no reason to mistrust the world," Rilke reassures us. We have been equipped by life, for life; and that life is so much a part of us that if we were to be still for just a moment, the trees and plants and animals that seem so separate from us most of the time would feel like they were a part of us as well. It is this sense of merging into a larger life that I experience when I step into the new. When I place the source of life outside of myself, it is easy to feel restricted; I feel lifeless and dull. But when I follow what is flowing from within and trust it, I have never been abandoned; the well is always full.
