Reflecting on the great venture of Columbus can inspire us each to take risks, to leave home on a voyage of discovery. The French writer, Marcel Proust, invites us to a Columbus-like voyage when he writes, "The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes." Jesus echoes that challenge with his words, "Have you eyes but no sight?" (See Mk. 8:15). That invitation to a new kind of vision has the power to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, a simple trip to the store into a voyage of incredible discovery.
