Religious Education from Spirituality & PracticeTraditionally, religious education programs have focused on the history and beliefs of a particular religion as taught by the clergy and lay leaders of the faith. But increasingly, religious education has been expanded to include training in spiritual disciplines and practices. Spirituality & Practice's online retreats are filling a gap in religious education offerings online. Our Online Retreats on classic spiritual practices enable participants to learn one of the tried-and-true practices of one of the world religions and incorporate the practice into their everyday lives. Retreats have covered the Christian practice of Lectio Divina (praying through Bible reading) and the contemplative Prayer of Forgiveness. Another retreat used the sacred poetry of Rumi to explain practices of Sufism. Another retreat explored the Way of the Prophet using as its basis a book by Joan Chittister. Upcoming Online Retreats will cover the practice of Observing the Divine Hours, Welcoming Prayer, and Intercessory Prayer. Participants receive these retreats in their email inbox. Emails include readings, question and answer sessions, and links to audio and video clips and online slideshows. There is also a private online Practice Circle where participants process the retreat together and interact with the teachers. If you're interested in religious education, consider an Online Retreat led by one of Spirituality & Practice's excellent teachers. The retreats are first offered during a set period, so check the website regularly to learn about new ones. We also encourage you to sign up for our free e-newsletter. It's the best way to keep up with what's going on at SpiritualityandPractice.com. To find out more about it, see the complete archive of past newsletters on the website. For more information, we encourage you to continue browsing the pages of Spirituality & Practice. We have created it to be a resource for you, and we hope that you find it helpful in your everyday life. |
