World Religions: Practices and Information

Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Taoism, Indigenous Religions, and more - the world religions are numerous and their differences are many. At Spirituality & Practice, we honor those differences but also celebrate the commonalities among the religions by providing resources for all kinds of spiritual journeys and by supporting interfaith dialogue. We see our mission as creating a worldwide community of people who are vitally engaged with the wisdom of the world religions and serve the world together through their spiritual practices.

The content at Spirituality & Practice is organized around a set of 37 practices that are considered markers of the spiritual life in all the world religions. These qualities are also embraced by people who practice a more general spirituality. The practices are listed on the right column of the homepage and include:

  • Compassion
  • Devotion
  • Faith
  • Forgiveness
  • Grace
  • Hospitality
  • Imagination
  • Justice
  • and others

Focusing on how to embody the above practices allows people to transcend religious dogmas and to come together as a spiritual community with common pursuits. Whether you are rooted in one religion or are still seeking a path, Spirituality & Practice will put you in touch with these universal practices.

Help from an Interfaith Community

If you're new to spirituality or are just beginning to explore it, consider taking the Spiritual Rx test located at the top right corner of the Spirituality & Practice homepage. The Spiritual Rx test can show you an appropriate practice to work on, and as your perspectives change, you can retake the test for new results and a new spiritual practice assignment.

If you're looking for someone to ask questions of or to share interfaith perspectives with, click the link for the S&P Community on the left side of the page. There you will find a number of forums including our guest book, questions and suggestion box, spiritual practices forum, book form, films/DVD forum, music forum, and more.
